Women form the backbone of Indian society, yet millions remain trapped in cycles of poverty, dependency, and limited opportunity. At Sayam Foundation, our women empowerment programs are designed to provide practical skills, financial literacy, and community support that enable women from underprivileged backgrounds to become self-reliant, confident contributors to their families and communities.
Since 2015, we have empowered over 5,000 women across 12 states through comprehensive programs that include vocational training, self-help group formation, micro-enterprise development, and financial inclusion. Our approach focuses on sustainable livelihood creation, ensuring that women do not merely receive temporary assistance but build lasting pathways to economic independence.

Vocational Skill Training Programs
Vocational skill training is the cornerstone of our women empowerment strategy. Sayam Foundation runs dedicated skill development centers across rural and urban areas where women receive hands-on training in marketable trades including tailoring, embroidery, food processing, beauty and wellness, digital literacy, and handicraft production.
Each training program is designed in consultation with industry experts and local market demand assessments. Our 6-month tailoring and garment-making course has trained over 1,200 women, with 78% of graduates starting their own home-based tailoring businesses within three months of completing the program. The food processing and packaging module teaches women to produce pickles, snacks, spices, and packaged foods that are sold in local markets and online platforms.
Our digital literacy program introduces women to smartphones, UPI payments, social media marketing, and basic e-commerce, enabling them to reach wider customer bases for their products. We also run beauty and wellness training that equips women with skills in hairstyling, makeup artistry, and skin care — a sector with rapidly growing demand in both urban and semi-urban areas.
All training programs include raw material kits, tool sets, and seed capital to help graduates start their ventures immediately. We provide ongoing mentorship through our network of successful women entrepreneurs who guide new graduates in business planning, pricing, marketing, and customer management.

Self-Help Groups (SHGs)
Self-Help Groups are the backbone of grassroots women empowerment in India. Sayam Foundation has facilitated the formation of over 200 SHGs comprising 15-20 women each, creating a network of over 3,500 women who collectively save, borrow, and invest to improve their economic conditions.
Each SHG follows a structured savings and credit model where members contribute a fixed monthly amount, building a collective corpus that can be used for emergency needs, business investments, education expenses, and healthcare costs. Our SHGs have collectively accumulated savings of over ₹2.5 crore, with a loan repayment rate of 97% — well above industry benchmarks.
Beyond financial services, SHGs serve as platforms for community support, knowledge sharing, and collective bargaining. Women in SHGs discuss health awareness, education for their children, legal rights, government schemes, and market opportunities. Our trained SHG facilitators ensure regular meetings, maintain transparent accounting records, and link groups with banks and government programs.
Many of our SHGs have been linked with the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) and state-level livelihood programs, providing access to subsidized credit, market linkages, and government subsidies. This institutional linkage has helped SHG members access loans at 4-6% interest rates compared to 24-36% charged by informal moneylenders.

Livelihood & Micro-Enterprise Development
Micro-enterprise development is the natural progression from skill training and SHG participation. Sayam Foundation provides comprehensive support to help women start and sustain their own small businesses through our Enterprise Development Program. This includes business planning workshops, market research assistance, product quality training, packaging support, and access to initial capital.
Our enterprise support model covers a wide range of business types including tailoring shops, beauty parlors, food stalls, grocery stores, poultry farming, dairy units, and handicraft production centers. Each participant receives a customized business plan, a starter kit worth ₹5,000-15,000, and six months of follow-up mentorship to navigate early business challenges.
We have established community production centers in five locations where trained women can access shared equipment, bulk raw materials, and quality control facilities at subsidized rates. These centers serve as production hubs where women manufacture products in groups, reducing individual investment requirements while improving product quality and consistency.
Our market linkage initiative connects women entrepreneurs with local retailers, corporate buyers, government procurement programs, and online marketplaces. We have successfully placed products made by our trainees in 200+ retail outlets across 8 states and helped several women entrepreneurs establish their own online stores through social media and e-commerce platforms.
